Middle East, Metalwork. Mail hood surmounted by a circular finial plate and plume holder, to which is attached a diaper patterned hood of fine copper, steel and brass butted mail links. The hood has a Vee-shaped slit to drape over the nose leaving an opening for the face and square cut panels designed to protect the throat and back of the neck. Incorrectly numbered 399:2-1888 (correctly tagged on underside); Persia, 19th c., Islamic arms and armour. Inter-departmental transfer to MES, RF 2011/1170.
